April is film month at the Balassi Institute. Budapest Short Film Festival presents in partnership with Balassi Institute – Hungarian Cultural Center and the Hungarian Consulate General in New York Young Masters – Short Films from Central Europe on April 2.
Get in the loop about Central European contemporary short films on April 2 with pieces from up and coming Central European directors. In its 10th year, Budapest Short Film Festival curates a great selection of short films from all over the world but always with a special focus on Central Europe. Join us and enjoy the award-winning pieces and the crisp vision of young directors from Central Europe. A spy struggles to rescue his colleague from torture before she reveals a key to a secret weapon. When his fellow agent is exposed and tortured to give away the secret that cannot fall into the wrong hands, a Cold War spy movie hero sets on a rescue mission only to learn the limits of his bygone world.

25km2 by Jana Mináriková (SK)

Have you ever wondered what it is like to live with a lead helmet on your head? 25km2 is a story about our stereotypes and about a very strange jeweler who has to live led by his great headpiece.

Heaven’s Vanguard by Emil Goodman (HU)

Heaven’s Vanguard is about the tragic story of Francis Blaise, the last great jazz star on the strange man-made planet of Caelestis. He retired from public life after the loss of his great love, the beautiful singer Anais. After an 8 year retirement, he returns for one final farewell performance at the luxurious new, upper-level concert venue, Heaven's Vanguard.

Monstercatch by Ágota Végső (HU)

Citizens of Budapest are too busy to notice anything, even if something spectacular is happening right before their eyes. A tiny poster figure stands up against the gigantic bubblegum monster, and is forced to flee to reality.

Water bonds together a man and a woman which later becomes a barrier for them, but when a child is born the two gets closer again.

Rabbit and Deer by Péter Vácz (HU)

Rabbit and Deer is a charming short animated film about the friendship of two loveable characters whose peculiar dilemma leads to a bittersweet end. The film, with its visual and emotional complexity, is engaging to both children and adults. Rabbit and Deer are living happily and careless until their friendship is put to the test by Deer’s new obsession to find the formula for the 3rd dimension. After an unexpected accident Deer finds himself in a new world, unknown to him. Separated by dimensions the two characters have to find the way back to each other.
