Young Hungarian Talents in Classical Music

August 20 – September 30, 2020


The application is open for any classical pianist of Hungarian nationality, who is younger than 30 years at the time of the deadline of application (e.g. born after August 31, 2020) and practices performing activities in Hungary and/or the United States.

Four of all competitors will be prized, out of one will be selected by the jury as the winner.
The competition will conclude with the publicly accessible online publishing of the submitted performances of the four finalists.

By applying, the competitors agree to give permission to the Hungarian Cultural Center in New York for using, publishing, and republishing their performances.

The winner will receive a prize of 1,000 USD offered by the Hungarian Cultural Center in New York.

The jury does not give shared prizes.
The jury reserves the right to other special recognitions and awards in any given form, such as performances or recordings.

Competitors can apply by filling out the online application form, by providing required personal details and repertoire. The application form is available here:

The completed application form must be submitted to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , with a link to a compressed file shared via Google Drive containing all the following attachments:

- scan of valid passport or ID,
- professional portrait photo (minimum 2 MB file size with at least 300 dpi resolution in JPG format),
- up-to-date CV (1,000-3,000 characters) with all professional studies, competitions, master classes and activities undertaken in the last three years included (in DOC or PDF format),
- video recordings of the three obligatory pieces detailed in the competition repertoire paragraph of this outline (in MP4 format, each up to 300 MB in size).

Only high-quality and recent video recordings made not before August 31, 2019, may be accepted. Submissions in physical format (CD, VHS, etc.) will not be considered.

The competition repertoire should be video recorded in one take without any edits. The hands and the face of the performer should be visible at all times. Only applications that meet all requirements shall be accepted.

October 30, 2020.

In max. 30 minutes

a) first movement of a Viennese classical sonata at the performer’s choice,
b) a composition by Béla Bartók or Ernst von Dohnányi at the performer's choice,
c) a virtuosic piano piece at the performer's choice.
